Global Meetings Industry Day Celebrated

Fredericton (April 13, 2016)

Leaders from across the meeting and event industry are coming together to support the first Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) on Thursday, April 14, 2016.  Simultaneous events will be held in Fredericton and Halifax, hosted by Meetings Professional International (MPI) Atlantic chapter.

2016 marks the first Global day, as MPI chapters in Europe and South America follow Canada’s lead, where National Meetings Industry Day has been celebrated for the past 20 years.

GMID is designed to shine a light on the substantial impact meetings and events have on businesses, economies and communities. Meeting and event industry association chapters, corporations, destinations, partners and more will hold events in destinations all across the United States, Canada and Mexico to support this day.

The Fredericton event will be celebrated at the Fredericton Convention Centre beginning at 11:30 with a lunch featuring guest speaker Joel Richardson, Vice President, New Brunswick & PEI Divisions, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME). Also during this event a New Brunswick leader will be recognized with an MPI Influence Award, as each Canadian chapter recognizes one person or organization in their community who has made a difference to the meetings industry.

The Fredericton lunch will be followed by Advantage New Brunswick, a showcase of 30 exhibitors from across the province representing hotels, meeting venues and destination management organizations, who will connect with meeting and event delegates from associations, government, corporations and not-for-profit organizations from 1:00pm-3:00pm. This biannual event brings together event planners and partners to exchange information, best practices and to discuss new trends in the industry.

More than 100 delegates from across New Brunswick are expected to attend the Advantage NB Showcase.
