Local business executives encouraged to bring conferences home
Fredericton Convention Centre (February 2, 2012) - The Fredericton Convention Centre (FCC) unveiled its updated web site this evening during a Fredericton Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours function. Business executives attending the event were encouraged to use the web site as a business development tool by clicking on the Bring Your Conference Home web link. The web site can be found at www.frederictonconventions.ca and has been designed with national meeting planners in mind.
“We use various ways of bringing new business to Fredericton,” says FCC general manager Cathy Pugh. “The Bring Your Conference Home initiative is one that anyone with ties to a business or association can help with. By filling out a simple form, information will be forwarded to the FCC sales team, who will facilitate getting the event to Fredericton, and allow our local businesses and associations to show off our great city.”
Also of interest to local businesses is the web site’s new Events Listing on the home page. Upcoming events planned for the FCC will be listed with as much detail as possible, including a link to the conference web site if available.
“We hope local businesses will get in the habit of checking the events listing, to find out when groups are arriving at the FCC, and when delegates may have free time in their conference agenda,” adds Ms. Pugh.
“We have had a good first year of operation,” said Chris MacPherson, chair of the convention centre’s board of directors and the City of Fredericton’s Chief Administrative Officer. “We continue to sell the destination, not just the building, and we are finding that national meeting planners are impressed with what Fredericton has to offer. The centre is opening up new markets for Fredericton in terms of the larger conventions we are now able to host.”
About the Fredericton Convention Centre
The Fredericton Convention Centre, located in downtown Fredericton, features a 1,159-square-metre (12,480 square foot) ballroom, which can accommodate a dinner for 960 people or a stand-up event for 1,200. The facility includes an additional 799-square-metres (8,600square feet) of flexible meeting space, ideal for breakout sessions, executive board meetings and special events.
The facility is served by a professional on-site kitchen, and also features a high definition video conference room, complimentary high-speed wireless and wired internet, and programmable digital signage. It is connected to the 700-seat Fredericton Playhouse. Delegates are within walking distance of the many cultural attractions, shops, boutiques and restaurants of New Brunswick’s Capital City.
