Fredericton Convention Centre Has Achieved GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation

The Fredericton Convention Centre (FCC) announced that they are the first convention centre in Atlantic Canada, and one of eight in Canada, to achieve the GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC), a Division of ISSA. This accreditation focuses on ensuring a clean, safe, and healthy environment in public and commercial facilities of all sizes.

To achieve GBAC STAR accreditation, FCC is required to demonstrate continuing compliance with the program’s core elements, ensuring proper cleaning protocols, disinfection techniques and work practices are in place to combat biohazards and infectious disease. GBAC STAR™ is the gold standard and provides third-party validation that facilities have rigorous protocols in place for thorough response to biorisk situations.

Our primary goal is to protect building users now and into the future”, said General Manager Cathy Pugh. “The GBAC STAR process helped us establish protocols and procedures, provided expert-led training and assessed the FCC’s readiness for biorisk situations. Our staff are now highly trained and empowered to implement best practices to prepare for, respond to and recover from outbreaks and pandemics.”

From mid-2020 until December 31, 2021, the FCC was rented by the New Brunswick Department of Justice and Public Safety. In January 2022, convention centre staff moved back into the building and are rebuilding the business events industry in Fredericton.
